In Paraguay, "online store" can mean two very different things. One is a store with a cart, where the customer chooses, pays by card, and gets a confirmation without talking to anyone. The other is an organized catalog where the customer picks what they want and writes to you on WhatsApp with the order already put together, and the payment gets sorted out in the conversation. Both sell. The question is which one fits your business today.
WhatsApp order catalog or cart-based store
| Catalog + WhatsApp | Cart with payment | |
|---|---|---|
| How the customer buys | Chooses on the page and writes to you with the order | Chooses, pays, and gets the confirmation |
| How you get paid | Transfer, QR, payment link, or cash on delivery | Card or wallet inside the page |
| What you have to manage | Every conversation | Incoming orders and stock |
| What you have to maintain | Prices and photos | Prices, photos, stock, payment gateway, and shipping |
| When it's the right fit | Few orders per day, medium or high ticket size, customers who ask before buying | Many orders, standard products, sales outside business hours |
Most of the small and medium businesses we work with start with the WhatsApp catalog, and it makes sense: the Paraguayan customer asks before buying, wants to know if and when it'll reach them, and trusts more when there's a person on the other end. The catalog saves you the repeated questions without taking the conversation away.
What a good WhatsApp order catalog looks like
- One listing per product, with photo, name, size or format, and price. A visible price filters out browsers and speeds up buyers.
- A button on every product that opens WhatsApp with the product already written in. The customer doesn't have to describe what they want.
- Categories and a search bar once you go past twenty or thirty products.
- How to pay and how it arrives, in a clear section: zones, shipping costs, delivery days.
- An order builder if you sell by quantity: the customer adds products and the message goes out with the full list.
We've built catalogs like this for an herb and spice shop in Limpio, with thirty products sold by the kilo and the order ready for WhatsApp, and for a perfume shop with a search bar where the "I want it" button writes the chosen perfume into the chat. You can see them in our work.
When a cart with online payment makes sense
Moving to a cart-based store makes sense when:
- You get so many orders that handling them one by one on WhatsApp no longer works.
- Your products don't need an explanation: the customer already knows what they want.
- You sell a lot outside business hours and don't want the order to wait until morning.
- Your customer is already used to paying by card online.
To charge customers on the page itself, you need a payment gateway that operates in Paraguay. Today's options, with their costs, are in our online payments guide. One thing that saves time: Stripe, Square, and Shopify Payments don't operate in Paraguay, so any platform that relies only on them to charge customers won't work here as is.
Which platform to use
- Store platforms like Shopify: fast to get started, with a monthly plan in dollars. Check which Paraguayan payment gateway you can connect before choosing.
- WooCommerce (on WordPress): flexible and widely used, but it needs hosting, updates, and someone to look after it.
- Custom-built: the store is built around how you actually sell. This is what we do when the catalog has its own rules, like quantity-based pricing or made-to-order products.
The platform matters less than having good photos, clear prices, and a shipping process that works.

Message me on WhatsApp →Shipping to the interior
One of the most common worries for a customer outside the capital is whether the order will actually reach them. Your store needs to answer that before they even ask:
- Which cities you reach, and whether it's your own delivery, a parcel service, or a shipping company.
- How much it costs and how long it takes, by zone. A simple table is enough.
- How shipping is paid: included, separate, or on delivery.
One of our clients in Caaguazú, who makes wooden corporate gifts, has a page on their site for every department in the country, explaining how the order gets there. It's one of the most effective ways to earn the trust of a buyer in another city, and it also gets found by Google when someone searches from there.
Photos and listings that sell
- A clean background and good light. A phone and daylight are enough to start.
- The same aspect ratio across all photos, so the grid looks organized.
- Let the product fill the frame, with no bars and no crops that cut the piece off.
- The product name the way people search for it, not the way your supplier calls it.
- Price, format, and what's included, always.
How to get your store found on Google
- One page per product or per category, with its own title and description.
- Clear names: "1-liter steel thermos" beats "Model TX-1" every time.
- Prices on the page, which Google can read and display.
- Product structured data so the search engine understands what you sell.
- The sitemap submitted in Search Console, as we explain in the Search Console guide.
Where to start
If you're already selling through Instagram and WhatsApp today, the logical next step is an organized catalog with WhatsApp ordering: it comes together fast, needs almost no maintenance, and brings order to the sales you already have. When the volume calls for it, you add the cart. If you'd like us to look at what fits your business, write to us and we'll send you a free analysis. You can also check out our website service.
